October 2006 Award Winner: Sue, Los Angeles County Animal Control
Nominated by: Andy and Daniela Ionescu, SCGSR
"A Special Person Named Sue"
We nominated Sue to be a Paws Up Award winner because she has helped us in our efforts to find forever homes for Giant Schnauzers in need throughout southern California.
During our many trips to animal shelters around Los Angeles County to identify and adopt Giant Schnauzers, we met Sue. After seeing us interact with the dogs she learned about our efforts and Southern California Giant Schnauzer Rescue. When a young male Giant named Pepe entered a shelter in Los Angeles County, Sue notified us. We were able to bring Pepe home, give him some love, attention and great food so he could gain some much needed weight. Pepe was adopted through our group to a wonderful home where he now has a female Giant Schnauzer "sister" and dog parents who love him.
Months later, a young female Giant Schnauzer showed up in the Los Angeles County Downey Shelter where Sue is a Volunteer. She again contacted us right away. We were able to bring Uba home the very next day and by 6 days later she was adopted through our group to a wonderful family in Encinitas, CA. Uba not only has a great human family to love her, she has a brand new name, Hailey, and a new big "sister," Daisy, who is a white Standard Poodle. Hailey and Daisy now enjoy playing together in their yard, taking walks on trails near their home, and even trips to the beach with their family.
Thanks to Sue and her quick response, these wonderful dogs didn't stay in the animal shelter very long before going home to great lives!! Volunteers like Sue are an invaluable resource to animal shelters and rescue groups. We are thrilled to be able to honor Sue with our October Paws Up Award!!
